My parents will have a combined gross income less than $23,000 for this year
we also receive some form of public assistance
so under those two qualifies it looks like I qualify for an automatic 0 efc

however i was wondering if this would be impacted by the income I made this year. As an intern I have made much more than whats protected for the "student income allowance" for the 2014-2015 fafsa year, (i believe its around 6700?)

will my income effect my efc if I otherwise qualify for a 0 efc as a dependent student?

It’s not impacted by your income. For auto 0 your income and assets are skipped altogether.

But you still have to deal with the taxes on your income if it is taxable.

The taxes won’t be a lot. You are just a tad over the amount where you don’t pay at all.

I think the OP was saying they think the fafsa income allowance is $6700 and said the internship income was well over that. The allowance is actually $6260. So we don’t know how much income there was over the standard deduction for taxes. Hopefully taxes were withheld from the internship income and there shouldn’t be any surprises come spring. If the OP has taxable scholarships/grants they would have to be added to the internship and any other income for taxes.

Ah…I see that now…AD!

So OP…just how much DID your earn at your internship?

Save your money…even with an EFC 0, you may not get enough aid.
