Hey guys, I’m still waiting to find out if I’ll get accepted off the waitlist for cal poly pomona, however submitted my intent to enroll at csu channel islands incase I don’t get off the waitlist for pomona. Anyway I just want to know if it would be possible to live in camarillo with $1,000 a month for general living. I don’t eat very much and probably wont spend more then ~$25/week on groceries. I’ve been looking at craigslist and it seems renting a room is going to be about $550-650 a month including utilities and internet. I’m planning to ride my bike to school but I will probably also pick up a bus pass which I believe is $25 for the whole semester? Those are the only costs I can think of atm so I’m wondering if there’s anything I’m missing. I don’t go out and party, I’m more of a video gamer so I like to stay in and play online with friends, so I don’t really need to set aside much money for going out. Maybe once or twice a semester I’ll head down to long beach to hang out with some friends I have there. I’m from california with an efc=0 so I’m assuming that I’ll be getting full grant aid. Which should almost be enough to cover the whole year of tuition, and I’ll be receiving an allowance from veterans for $1,000 each month which I plan to use to pay for my room and board and anything else I need. I’m hoping that the school library has copies of books on reserve so I don’t have to purchase most of my books, or else I’ll end up renting them. Thanks!
Average american who goes to Channel Islands State off campus without your parents is $25,232.
Why isn’t the VA office at Channel Islands helping you with housing?
I didn’t know that they could help out with housing… I haven’t submitted any forms to them yet so they don’t know about me… I was planning to get all the VA stuff turned in when I go there in a couple of days for orientation.
The VA office is your “friend”-use it to your advantage at both schools. Please remember that you are a Vet, and everyone appreciates the fact that you put your education on hold to protect the rest of us. That VA office on both campuses is there for you. Present yourself via phone, email or in-person and let them know that you are a vet.
