I am wondering how demanding it is to earn an engineering degree at JHU...

How much time is spent by engineers for classes? for studying? for homework?
I've read from other posts that the amount of work tends to increase from year to year. Do you think engineers generally have plenty of time to do other things? And can an engineer play on a varsity team (certainly not lacrosse) at JHU?

Tough to say as it varies from person to person and major to major. I definitely had plenty of time to go out on the weekends and volunteer tutor on the weekdays in the hopkins tutorial project. I studied too much first semester of freshman year (like 20 hours a week with a lot of it cramming - I remember trying to read 200 pages in 7 hours for a final…lol…ended up with a C+ in the class while I had covered grades first semester)…then I realized how to study more efficiently (~10-15 hours a week) by taking better notes and not staying up till 2 every night playing drunk mario kart. In the end, i graduated with decent grades (~3.7 GPA), partied, and did research without working too hard and made it into a fine grad school with money.

3.7 gpa is awesome! Seems like you made it through college easy. Did you know any engineers that were athletes for JHU? I’m trying to play athletics in college

While I’m not an engineer myself, I highly suggest you to join the admitted Facebook group (if you’re class of 2017) - there are some current students who are engineers who can help you out and answer your questions! I also know that there are forums where current student can answer your questions ([Meet The JHU Students](http://www.hopkins-interactive.com/forums/meet-the-jhu-students/)) - some are Engineers on there too.

I definitely knew a bunch (in tennis and track in particular). Definitely doable.

My son does indoor and outdoor track and is a mechanical engineering major. I am not going to lie- it is hard -but doable! He has a little free time but I am glad he does not have to work during the school year because I doubt he could fit a job in.

My suitemate last year was,and still is, a Lacrosse player and a BME… if he’s able to survive, I think you should be okay. Also, there are plenty of BMEs and other Engineering majors who are on varsity teams. You just need to learn to manage your time.
