How bad is the workload at JHU?

That would depend on what classes you are taking/what your major is.

Funny thing is that many of the kids find the workload enjoyable…

That depends on your schedule obviously, and how efficient you are.
I would say that most (~70%) people (that I know of) stay up late pretty late at night or spend much of their time at work, and I do hear much moaning about how much reading one has to do, etc etc.

To give you an idea, here are some course homepages for some physics classes that most math/sci/eng people take in their first year. [Course Homepages](Undergraduate Courses | Physics & Astronomy | Johns Hopkins University)

You can find other course homepages from the department websites.

WealthOfInformation, you must work for admissions…

I guess I can take that as a compliment… I’m an active alum who lives in the bay area now and think fondly of my time at JHU. During my time there and of my friends who have children there, my sense is the type of students who are there do enjoy a lot of the work or at least the challenge of it. I remember being over-worked at some points of the semester if I let myself fall behind, but as for readings and papers (I’m a humanist at heart) I found them enjoyable and pleased I was given the opportunity to read so many books and papers.

Communal complaining is part of the college process of course, students gathering to complain about exams, professors and terrible curves but I think overall, most of the students do like the academic challenge of the place. (Group complaining happened in HS, college and now happens in my office too).
