Average GPA- aerospace engineering?

Does anyone have any idea what the average GPA is for community college transfers into the aero eng program at Cal poly-Pomona?

Here’s the best I can do. A 3.34 for the college of engineering, but since aero is one of the impacted majors, I would suspect about a 3.6.

http://www.csupomona.edu/~irar/facts/docs/Just_the_Facts_F10.pdf

The average is definitely not 3.6, since virtually ALL the engineering majors at Pomona are impacted (Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical). Looking up the actual number of transfers to those majors, it’s 246, so 246 out of 279 engineering transfers were to impacted majors, so I would say 3.34 is not a bad guesstimate for aero, but it could be slightly more. It’s almost certainly not more than 3.4 since Cal Poly SLO (which is tougher to get in and every major is impacted) has an average transfer GPA for engineering of 3.42.

But since the GPA isn’t broken down by major it’s hard to tell how the individual engineering majors compare. CSULB does that though, and while it may not be as difficult to get in as the Cal Poly’s, it does allow us to compare aero to other engineering majors:

Median GPA for Fall 2011 Transfers
Aerospace Engineering BS: 3.26
Chemical Engineering BS: 3.30
Civil Engineering BS: 3.32
Computer Engineering BS: 3.19
Electrical Engineering BS: 3.28
Mechanical Engineering BS: 3.27

Aero is pretty close to the average of them all, so again I don’t think 3.34 at Pomona would be a bad estimate. The 25%/75% values at CSULB for aero are 3.16 and 3.44. Assuming a similar GPA spread at Pomona would give 3.24-3.52. That’s about as good of an estimate you’re going to get for what you need to transfer. (Just FYI, I have all this info because I’m transferring into aero in the Fall).

I stand corrected. Good analysis.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer my question. I truly appreciate it.

AncientGammoner, i’d love to know your GPA if you’d be willing to share it?

I haven’t been accepted yet to CPP yet, and my situation is… very complicated to say the least. My GPA for Pomona is either 3.26, 3.50, 3.46, or 3.64 depending on how they look at it (seriously lol). I use to go to CPP you see and I recently repeated some courses there through the extended university. Problem is, they wouldn’t process the paperwork to replace the old courses I repeated because I wasn’t a “matriculated student.”

Soo the first GPA number is the one on my CSU app with ALL the grades included (old and new). The second one is the “adjusted” GPA with my repeated courses replacing my old grades, which will happen the instant I become a student there. The reason they could be taking this into consideration is the Registrar’s office wrote a letter to the Admission’s office informing them of the situation and to use this “adjusted” GPA, but who knows if they will.

The third and fourth GPA’s are taking into consideration Fall grades. You obviously don’t do that on your application, but Pomona had me submit all my transcripts recently, and since my transcripts will obviously have my Fall grades they could easily recalculate my GPA. If they do, but DON’T take into consideration my replaced courses then it’s 3.46; if they do and the DO take into consideration my replaced courses then it’s 3.64.

Whew, told you it was complicated lol.

Are you trying to transfer this year Cyse?
