What score out of 100 should the average engineer get on the first math prelim? I took a practice and didn't do that well...

When I took my first 192 prelim freshmen year, the class mean was around a 62, I think I got a 64. It was at that moment that I knew I wasn't in high school anymore haha.

Haha, please tell me they curve it up...

Of course a prof wouldn't let an average be a 62...that would just show he's a bad teacher. At least that is what I'm assuming. He probably curves that test or curves grades at the end of the year. If a prof's average grade for a class was that low he'd probably be in a lot of trouble cuz he wasn't teaching well.

But lesson to take is to remember it's not highschool anymore...this is the big leagues lol.

Yeah I'd ignore the actual score and look at how many standard devations you are from the mean. I think 192 is curved to a B- or B.

Yeah, exactly towerpumpkin, it all comes down to the standard deviation for your grade. I ended up getting a B+ after working my a$$ off. I also do remember them saying its curved to a B, B- area.

Mean on the first 192 prelim was about at 60 something. In 192, they usually dont' curve until the end of the course. Each aspect is assigned a point value (100 for prelims, 150 for the final 50 for the homework) then they determine an overall mean then curve to a B- or B. Like someone already said, important is your score's relationship with the mean and standard dev.
