the CIA world factbook does not lie about racial demographics in the population either.

here is a little sneak preview. according to a study conducted in the the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, the acceptance rate for blacks at MIT is 28 percent, TWELVE percent over the normal admissions rate. meanwhile, blacks average the lowest math scores in the country. it's pure numbers. URMs can SIGNIFICANTLY negatively deviate from the middle 50% of many schools. for instance, the early applicant acceptance rates for African-Americans at Johns Hopkins is 77.8 percent, compared to 55.5 percent for the average applicant. that's not pennies, my friend.

"If I was born in South Africa, could I call myself an African-American and get URM status?"

no.

you'd be considered an international student even if you were black.

affirmative action applies to minorites born in the USA for the most part. nice try :).

Darn, I tried. That has always been on my mind, though.

For the record: I was born in Ohio. :)

I do not know either, but you can bet that it is higher than the avewrage recruited hockey player.

"affirmative action applies to minorites born in the USA for the most part. nice try "

Err... you're wrong. Affirmative actions applies to american citizens and american permanent residents.

ivyleaguechamp.. you seem to be meshing together a lot of facts that dont' really relate. Sure... black students on average score below white students in the SATs, but that does not mean that the black students accepted in MIT have lower Math SAT scores that white students.... It's an average. People score higher and lower.

You have absolutely no way of quantifying your statements. Unless you have the actual average SAT scores of black students in MIT.

he didn't say he was going to be a permanent resident. do you know what "for the most part" means. my facts are perfectly valid.

but u're wrong... it's not "for the most part". For the most part, it applies to permanent residents and citizens.

It doesn't "for the most part" apply to minorities born in the States.

Your facts are valid, but your conclusion is not.

semantics.

you know what, you guys can live in your little fairy tales. i'm learning the science of admissions. i'll talk to you next year

are u caucasion? if so, then no sorry you can't.

*caucasian

Wow, I'm alarmed by the national GPA versus SAT scores. It's clear that grade inflation is a major problem across the US. Also, note the correlation between income levels in the home and test scores. The poorer the student, the poorer the score. It makes me wonder how all of these very selective schools are going to accomplish their mission of recruiting/admitting poorer students. I guess they'll have to lower the bar for them.

so no one knows if i can make it in with a 1270
