Average scores of the following

What is the normal ACT score for students who get into the following universities. (without legacy, URM status, or any other advantage)

I know the supposed range of the middle 50% but I would much rather know what is a good score to have (ACT) if you do not have any hooks.

Following schools:
Brown
Stanford
uPenn
Columbia
Dartmouth

Thanks

This information is not available.

The reason people look at the middle 50% is because the bottom 25% is believed to be many hooked applicants.

The vast majority probably have a 34-36. Some who get in definitely do have a 33 and under, but the majority almost certainly have a 34-36. Without a hook, stats need to be real close to perfect to be competitive at the above schools.

I think cortana’s estimate is almost surely right.

But you have to be careful about this question. The fact that most successful applicants to these colleges have scores in that range does not mean that most applicants with scores in that range will be successful. They won’t be.

Does that make an ACT of 34 or higher “a good score to have” if you’re applying to these colleges? I guess so, insofar as it means you won’t get tossed out on account of your test scores. A score of 34 or more should get you into committee, if you have the grades to go with it. But even an ACT of 36 won’t be enough to ensure that you’ll get a fat envelope in the mail.

^ Indeed. At highly selective schools, grades and ACT/SATs won’t get you in, but they sure will keep you out.
