How many hours of homework do you get in each class?

How many essays do you usually have to write?
How long do those essays usually need to be? (I'm not very good at writing them).

I'm interested in double majoring in history/physics (astronomy) and working towards premed (just in case). I know that's a lot of classes (and I may have to drop the history major if I can't manage it).

I know that the answers vary by professor, but please tell me your about your experience.

I heard that the workload at Emory is great, but also manageable.

How many hours of homework do you get in each class?
mostly, lots of reading, but during the week i dont stay up past 12 usually...i get like no work, and ive taken classes in lots of different subjects...
How many pages of text do you need to read per week?
ok, thats a lot. well over a 100. i usually dont do it unless i have to.
How many essays do you usually have to write?
depends. what are yout aking? in religion we have 5 4-6 page papers throughout the semester, in english we had like 3, varying lengths, longest was 7pp, my nbb seminar had one 10 page paper, history has 3 5 page ones, french has lots of 2-300 word things...i dont find the writing a problem at all, but my high school was really writing intensive.
How long do those essays usually need to be? (I'm not very good at writing them). see above

there are a lot of double majors/major+minor/random major+premed people. physics will be a lot of work, i think, i hear physics is really hard. i dont think it'll be too muchw ork, history shouldnt be that bad, but the quality of work will be huge....doing it wont take up too much time, but doing well will. especially when its time to study for orgo and **** like that.

thanks, cookiemonster. you've been a lot of help.

Last year (junior year), I was asked to read around 100 pages of text per week in US History. 50-75 pages of text per week in Biology. And 40 pages every two days or so when we were reading a book or 1 hour long essays during the first semester AP English course. I was given the boot after first semester because i had a C average (partly because I sucked at grammar). I got low grades in biology and us history (low Bs), but I pulled off a 4 in AP Bio and a 5 in AP US History. That year was a miserable experience and I almost never completed the readings. I just hope college is not going to be like that.

I'm used to writing 3-5 page essays. Unfortunately, when asked to submit a 8 page essay term paper in Intro Philosophy and Ethics, I only managed to write 5-6 pages and turned it in 2 days late. Of course, I was writing about Hegel. I'm not a great writer, but I hope to improve in college. I'm just hoping I don't have to write 20 page papers every semester or anything of that sort.
