Award letter?

We have not received an official award letter from Clemson, with an option to accept/decline/ask for extension until May 1.

The last notification we got of money was the Out of State tuition waiver last semester.

As it's coming down to decision time and we have to start sending out "thank you but not coming" letters, want to wait until get the final numbers from every university before start doing that.

Don't want to turn someone down, only to find out they have a nice scholarship offer that we somehow were not informed about.

Are we supposed to do something online, and if so, where do we go and how do we login?

Or is there going to be an official letter with places to check off, like some other universities have sent us?

One of the parents of an NSP finalist had called the Clemson FA office about a week or two ago and they told her that award letters will not go out until mid-late April. I don’t know why they wait so long.

I was able to make contact with a financial aide - scholarship representative earlier this week who said that a a relatively limited number of additional scholarships would be released mid-April.

well at this point, I would probably assume that you won’t get any more scholarships. I didn’t receive my award letter last year until after May 1st but I didn’t get any scholarships from Clemson so you may hear back before then. As for as grants/loans from the government, the offer is usually the same as what other schools have offered already.

rcoreydad, wow that really surprises me. I was told, via email, from two people within FA, that there was no more scholarship money. I wish they’d be consistent. Also, I was told mid-late April for award letter, which will make Clemson lose some top students.

FYI. Clemson sent preliminary FA notifications out last week. So hopefully they won’t lose that many good students that would really like to attend. An e-mail was sent with instructions how to view the information on line.

supportive87mom, thanks for the info., but when did you receive an email? We have not. Son received provisional acceptance last May, I think. He’s been accepted into honors with great stats and EC’s. I think Clemson is probably a great school, but they are inconsistent and late in communication. It makes me question how organized things would be if my son were to actually go there.

They couldn’t even read my son’s honors application and recs. until last week, even though they’ve had them for over 4 months. I was told that this was their policy to wait until after all of the electronically sent apps/recs. were reviewed. We had absolutely no choice but to mail them, as our county has a rule to only send via snail mail. I hate this rule, but our county is projected to top 176,000 students this next year, so perhaps more staff needs to be involved in reviewing these applications. I wouldn’t think we’re the only county with this dumb rule.
It just doesn’t make a prospective student feel very valued to be expected to wait until the 11h hour to be notified of award status and honors program invite. This has not been the situation at Auburn or UGA. Certainly, it has been a big disappointment to my son.

Since I did not experience any of the delays or frustrations that have been highlighted when my son applied two years ago, I can only assume that an influx in applications and cuts in state funding have contributed to the backlog and limited availability of aid. I can assure you, however, that the perception you have of the school’s disorganization has not been evident in the almost two years my son has spent on campus. In fact, I have been pleasantly surprised given the size of the school that there is considerable attention and organization to the student processes and administration. It definitely has not been a “just a number” experience!

I was able to push back the deadline if you dont have the time… just stinks that almost all schools have the same due date

I agree with Tiger10, even though the admissions/financial aid office is highly unorganized, the rest of my experience so far at Clemson has been amazing. It’s hard to find a school (especially at a large public university) where the administration cares so much about the students!
