award letters

how long does it take for schools to mail out award letters? like financial aid from the fafsa

It depends on the school. If you have already been accepted, you will probably get an award letter in the next few weeks. I work at a very large state school, and we are sending out award letters to accepted freshmen this week. Letters for returning students won't go out for awhile, though.

This sounds like a foolish question in my head, but I don't need to commit to a school before getting the FA award letter, do I? I mean, the award letter arrive before the deadline for accepting admission, right? It sounds absurd, since the award will be the most important factor in making a decision for me but I'm sort of running blind here... help would be greatly appreciatted!

Yes, schools will get your financial aid award to you before they expect you to make a decision.

And it's not a foolish question - it's an excellent question. Finances are a very important aspect of the college decision.

Kelsmom-
Does the fafsa need to be 100% complete? I think the only thing that still needs to be filed is my dads taxes. His stupid job has yet to get him the w2. I have sent in the parent sigs and estimated how much my parents made. Is that okay for now to get my award letter?

You will most likely receive an award letter even though you used estimates. Remember, though, that if the “real” numbers result in higher income or lower taxes paid … your award may be reduced (or increased, if you over-estimated).
