As far as selecting school, state, national, and international for awards what would be the level for the following: AP Scholar with honor, National Merit Semifinalist, and the National Honor Society? I selected national, state/ national/ international, and school/ national respectively, are those the appropriate catagories?

I didn’t know National Honor Society was an award? I thought it was an activity

I’m putting it for both, NHS is my honor and the EC is that I tutor for NHS. I think being selected is more of the honor part of the award/ honors

But what does everyone think as far as levels for those three?

None of those awards are international.

I’m pretty sure nmsqt is taken internationally. There’s an international score cutoff just like any other state. So logically if there’s people who can win it internationally it should be considered an internationally recognized award. I could be wrong

I just read that u.s. Citizenship is a requirement, but I have seen an international cutoff level on a thread. I guess it’s just stare and national then?

NHS would probably be school.
The other two I would think would be national?
National Merit does have an international cutoff, but it’s for U.S citizens living overseas. Seeing as it is just for U.S citizens, I would consider it national.

**National **Honor Society

How can you say that falls under school and not national?

Because the criteria for admissions are determined by the school, and the applicant pool is limited to the people in your school.

I don’t think NHS is as significant as you may think…EVERY APPLICANT nearly is going to have it on their application! And NHS is usually a joke.

I personally wouldn’t list it as an award, but if you do, it would fall under the “school” section.

National Merit Semifinalist should be state, in my opinion; after all, a national merit semifinalist in one state (like mine) would not necessarily be one in New Jersey or some other state with a very high cut off.

AP Scholar with Honor, though, would be under “national” I believe.

I think National Honor Society would be a school award since, like mochahappiness said, the criteria for admission varies widely from school to school. However, awards which have a standardized criteria such as AP Scholar, PSAT Scholar are considered national

Hope this helps!

I remember putting down NHS as a school award and national merit as national. There’s no need to make the award sound bigger than it is---- everyone knows what NHS and NMS are :).

you can check off more than one level, it isnt limited to just one label. like NHS is probably school and national

That is what I did.
