According to my Student Financial Aid statement
Total need: $22,115.00
UNMET NEED: $19,115.00

I know they havent processed my aid package yet, so does this mean I got some sort of merit aid?

Did you see any information under the My Awards section ?

No it says “An award package has not yet been created for you.”

where do you find this information?

go to this site
[Office of Student Financial Aid](http://www.financialaid.umd.edu/)

The difference between the two is probably your expected family contribution . I just checked my status and my unmeet need is less than the total cost of attendance but I too don’t have an award package created for me yet

I have not accepted admission for the Fall 2011 because I am waiting to see what my financial aid situation is. Can I still check without university ID

My EFC is 0. maybe its just a glitch in the system

I mean you can always call but is there any explanation for reduction under the MY Budget part ? Like how is your unmeet need less than the total cost of attendance, is there a part that shows the amount reducted ?

@33dm I have not committed to umcp yet either so you should be able to check. Everyone automatically receives an ID when they apply.

How do you check? I have my ID but I can’t figure out how to make a password.

Did you receive an email from umcp about checking your financial status ?

Weird that I’m the one asking the possible freshman the question, but does anyone have any idea when packages are released for next year? I honestly don’t remember and its pretty important for me this year.

^ later this month

bnr2011, on my daughter’s page, the difference between her “need” and “unmet need” is the amount of her President’s scholarship. So maybe you did get a scholarship?

Dont feel bad it says that my family can contribute $51,000 and since the OOS is only about $38000 I have $12000 to spend. Have no idea where they came up with this information. That is not what my FAFSA said.

I didnt have very good stats, so I doubt its a presidential or deans scholarships or whatever. Maybe its a one time departmental scholarship, but someone on this site said they really dont give a lot out to freshmen

You can always wait till the end of this month to see all of your awards and your efc

Please come back and tell us what accounts for the $2K difference. DD1 had this happen her freshman year, but I can’t remotely remember what it was. Just a warning to all awaiting their financial aid awards…UMD does NOT profess to meet all needs. Even if your EFC is 0, there still may be gaps. If you are OOS and didn’t get a large enough scholarship to help you a lot, there will be bigger gaps. I marvel at the number of students who are able to make it work with little $. *Still glad for those college savings accounts we set up!
