So I’ve recently heard from someone that awards you receive from school/teachers (highest numeric average awards, citizenship awards, etc.) are pretty much useless, and the only awards that colleges actually acknowledge are the ones that you get from competitive events (state, national level awards)… Is that true, or will the school awards also play a part in admissions?
@egahn1317 The more competitive the admissions at a particular college, the more competitive the award needs to be to have an impact.
Any award gives the college information about you…that you are the best student, that you are a wonderful citizen…but those are in the context of your school. State or national awards show that 1) you are aware of the award program 2) Have gotten support in applying 3) Stand out against others across the state/nation in that program.
There are 3000 colleges in the US…you don’t have to have a national award to get into one.
