in UCapp, the section where you put awards and honors you've won. Does that include school scholarships?

Also for volunteer experience, it says-years after 12th grade. Does it mean the amount of years of the volunteer experience, or years after 12th grade that you started your volunteering job?

I've heard that family responsibility is one of the ECs, but I do not see any section where I can add it. Let's say I've been going to school while taking care of my baby daughter, does that count as EC? I know it is not as fancy as other ECs, maybe schools don't care about that.

ECs are actions that require commitment and respondsiblity to it. So if that qualifies then its a ec, i’ve been wondering whether “if we are transfer students do we put in athletic awards that were received during highschool?”

Extra curricular activities is everything you do outside of school. That includes taking care of your daughter. I would explain that in my personal statement. Let them understand know your duties, and how you balanced school at the same time. It is as important as any other kind of extra activity.

The UC app asks for anything beginning in ninth grade, so you can put stuff you did in HS. You can check the “After 12th” box if you started volunteering after you graduated or continued it after you graduated.

@natjan - IMO it doesn’t hurt to put that down =)

@Regent57. Thanks for your suggestions. I think I will talk a little about my family responsibility in my PS. Taking care of a minor child does not really prove that I have special ability, but it is surely a tough job. Many times, I think it is more difficult than most of the school works, because it never ends, hehe.
