You’re sure it’s mid-April? I have all of my scholarships mapped out with notification dates in order and I only had one in April and I don’t remember AXA being one! lol
Boo, I’m gonna be mad too haha don’t worry, I haven’t received jack yet either

<p>Just got my award letter today guys! I can’t believe I won it, i was not expecting this at all!! Oh and do any of you know if its 2,000 for four years or just one year? Either way, i’m so grateful; I haven’t won an outside scholarship before lol</p>

<p>I guess they look at academics over community service/leadership on this scholarship, even though this is a “community” scholarship</p>

<p>thorshammer11 - i disagree. My son won this and he is a very good student but not top. I’m sure won due to his community service project which was something he initiated, was committed to, and worked on for several years.</p>
<p>@amy, is your son an eagle scout? By the way, someone can lie about their experiences, it happens all time… or do a project such as a fundraiser which is “life changing” according to that particular student. It is unfortunate that many students do get awarded scholarships like this one where they only took part in an event or just listed they were a part of an organization to further themselves. Congratulations for your son, especially for staying devoted to a project for several years. this shows true dedication and commitment…</p>
<p>thorshammer11 - no , he is not an eagle scout. he started a service project 3 yrs ago and worked on it throughout high school. This scholarship required a letter from an unrelated adult to attest to the applicants achievement, so i would think this would limit an applicant the ability to lie about their experience. there are several scholarships like this one (including the AXA acheivement, kohl’s, and prudential spirit of community) which award initiative and committment to volunteerism. i wouldn’t be so cynical about the recipients - althought the AXA community award site does not list details about recipients, if you look at the prudential spirit of community site you can see detail about the recipients specific projects which is impressive to say the least. there is some overlap of winners with these awards, and i don’t think these kids are the ones that just ‘took part in an event’ …they were the kids who organized something and show commitment over time.</p>
