Hello! I'm working on my portfolio for architecture. The schools that I'm applying to that requires portfolios are U Oregon, CCA, USC, Cornell U, and Syracuse U. I was wondering how I should format the portfolio. I heard that I should have a good description of my architecture pieces and maybe a short description for freehand drawings, etc. Is a title for freehand drawings good enough or should I provide a description? I don't want to put too much description because the admission officers won't have the time to read all of them. Any advice? Thanks! :)

Describe them. A couple sentences will suffice.

Thank you! Even the architecture models should just be a couple of sentences? Someone told me that I should give a site plan and describe where the building is so that the admission officers can see the design and creativity.

Also, is it alright to have around 2 pictures of the same project and a description on one page? Thanks.

I think if you check the school’s architecture website, they explain what they are looking for in the way of description and title.

even with the model, you should say what it is made out of and 2-3 sentences about the project. i dont think a site is necessary.

yes it is ok for 1 project to extend onto another page

for all drawings and projects, do title, medium, and 1-2 sentence description. they will read a short description but not a paragraph

I think for your portfolio, make it very simple so it doesn’t take attention away from your work. For projects, you could give a small description of the project and what your concept is, but keep it short and simple. You are right that admissions officers won’t have time to read paragraphs. Like what others said, check with the instructions/school website. Good luck!
