<p>S1 has been in discussions with several NESCAC schools about playing football. After meeting with one school, they did a pre-read of his academic record and came back indicating he was a "B" band student with nothing further. The coach was very positive and told him to keep in touch, but nothing further. What does that mean?</p>
<p>I think that means that academically he falls into a group of qualified candidates, but not at the highest (A band) level. Coaches have guidelines on how many athletes they can slot in each band.</p>
<p>NESCAC uses “bands” similar to the Ivy Academic Index.
It rates students on a risk level based on academics.
A is good. C is a high risk (ie; not as good a student).</p>

<p>1) Received positive feedback post-prospect day/camp. HC is collecting admissions data from all prospects. Once received, will collectively run by admissions and notify each recruit individually re: status.</p>
<p>2) HC has seen all academic information, but no indication that it has been run by admissions. However, is very interested in scheduling overnight visit</p>
<p>3) HC has seen all academic information, no indication that admissions has seen it. Expressed great interest inS1, but no invite to campus yet.</p>

<p>A NESCAC coach generally won’t talk about scheduling an overnight with a student athlete, unless they get a pre-read nod from Admissions, or are oterwise very confident with transcripts/test scores being acceptable.</p>
<p>Your son’s classification as a “B” band recruit suggests he is admissable at that particular school. </p>
<p>It sounds generally encouraging from an admissions standpoint, but whether or not he receives coach support in the form of a slot offer(s) depends on the athletic value he will add to each team. </p>
<p>If your son does not hear more finite news in the next week or so (after coaches get their 2012 seasons underway) …he should ask directy, whether the coach is willing and able to support him with a slot; and if that will require him to apply EDI/EDII.</p>
