Please help me out, I am also applying to Wayne State University's MedStart program and also St.Bonaventure's BS/MD program.

Sorry, I doubt many people on this board know much if anything about these programs specific to MSU. But I do know that you would have a great shot at anything you applied to, with your outstanding GPA and EC's. Just try to get your ACT up a little or aim for a 2100+ for the SAT and you'll likely get in.

I think (not 100% sure) there is a requirement for MSUs program of either a 30 or 31 ACT. So you might want to get that up a little. Other than that if your rejected its not because you werent qualified.

Thanks both of you, I will try my best.

^bump..............

bump..................................!

bump...................?

the b.s/m.d program for msu is being phased out, so they're not accepting applications for 2009
dunno about the b.s/d.o program though

No way, You've got to be kidding?!!!???!!!!??? I swear it said the app will be up on August 1st? I'll go check right now!!!

Oh man, you were right, i Guess Wayne State MedStart now lol, so do you think i'm fit to apply for that one?

Is the BS/DO program easier to get into than the BS/MD program? Can any accepted applicants help us out with some stats?

Yes, the BS/DO program is much easier to get into! Much less competition first of all, and if you dont meet one requirement, such as ACT, they will overlook that if you have a good GPA, or if you get good recs explaining why they should accept you. I'm assuming since theres so many things that one can do to still be accepted, even if they are lacking in one area, the program is easier...

As far as I know, there is no such thing as the BS/DO program. Do you mean MD/PhD? Well if there is a BS/DO program it is being phased out.

From an older CC discussion, "From my US News Ultimate Guide to Med Schools book here are the stats:

1025 in-state applied, 251 interviewed, 121 accepted 85 enrolled
1825 out of state applied, 111 interviewed, 52 accepted 21 enrolled.

This was the MD, not the DO."

Here's an 6 page thread on the program. From what I see, it seemed to be really tough to get into

Just fyi, from the MSU website.

Q: Do you offer a combined B.A.-B.S./M.D. Program?

A: No. The College of Human Medicine is no longer accepting applications to the MD Medical Scholars combined BA-BS/MD program.

The College of Human Medicine will complete the MD Medical Scholars programming and commitments to current Scholars.

New opportunities for an early acceptance to medical school at the College of Human Medicine are being planned for qualified and interested undergraduate students. Interested students should check our website periodically during the 2008-09 academic year. Information will be posted on our home page as soon as it becomes available.

^ there is a BS/DO program, but it is not a guaranteed seat, just preferential status, to ensure you keep working hard and dont slack off. (but if you ask me, i'd say its pretty much guaranteed)

Here's some info just in case you didn't see it before. This prolly means they expect you to be a nearly perfect student to even apply

The OMSP is looking for a diverse group of young people to help carry the program into the future. There are some basic attributes that are expected of all candidates:

High school GPA of 3.5 or higher
ACT score of 28 or higher or SAT score of 1280 or higher
Record of volunteerism and community service
Leadership roles and awards
Knowledge of osteopathic medicine and time spent with a doctor of osteopathic medicine/osteopathic physician (D.O.)
High school seniors with lower academic criteria may apply with a nomination letter written by their school counselor and their principal

Thanks both of you!
Animefreak: Do you have any stats of previously accepted applicants? Or do you know anyone who got in? I'm interested in applying to the BS/DO at MSU and MedStart at Wayne State next year, and I'm hoping that BS/DO is easy to get into as if I don't get in at MedStart I would go to MSU, do the BS/DO, and hope that they offer me a professorial assistantship (lots of research :)

fa-la-la-lena: Do you know any past applicants to the BS/DO program at MSU? I've scoured CC, but I can't find any threads about BS/DO (maybe CC people don't freak out about admissions to the BS/DO program because it is so easy) :)

I do meet (and greatly exceed for the most part) all of the requirements. I hope that means that they will take me :)

To animefreak: I've sent you a PM :)

haha no I know absolutely no one at MSU yet, sorry. I'm still an incoming freshman, but I leave for MSU in 7 days :)
