BA/MD: The Competition

Hey ccers,

I'm a premed at a large state school, biology major. I've been looking into various BA/MD programs. For example, I know that some medical schools in my state have a BA/MD program and require things like:

-five recommendations, 3 science 2 non science profs
-min GPA of 3.5 by end of sophomore year
-orgo, gen chem, gen bio, labs, calculus

My question is, are these programs willing to accept the average applicant, say a 3.55 student with strong clinical experience, volunteering etc.? I know prospective BA/MD applicants who had sub 3.0 first semester averages, got high 3.9s and 4.0s following semesters, who were given serious consideration for admission. Any thoughts, recommendations?

Also, would affiliation with a med school (ex., undergrad employment) help for admission to this program and/or typical junior year med admissions?
