BA or BS in biochemistry

i'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference in BA and BS of biochemistry? which one is better?

Is it the same college that's offering the two? There shouldn't be a difference, unless the classes for each are different

I don't know the exact difference, but I know that for myself, I could get a BA or a BS in biology. But I'm planning on doing a BS because that sounds like it's more science focused if that makes any sense.

so is BA more like english-oriented? i'm confused lol

Well think about it.
BA = Bachelor in the Arts
BS = Bachelor in the Sciences

It might depend on other classes that are required for your degree, outside your major. Check the programs of study required for each with your college.

I'm majoring in biology, and my school offers a BS and BA in biology. Both have the exact same biology requirements, but the BA also requires a liberal arts core (hist, eng. foriegn language etc), while the BS does not, and there are other courses (science/business) they can use for their degree.

I'd say that to a future employer/grad school, they'd look at both degrees the same. I choose BA so if I decide to not go into science, I'd have a liberal arts background.

hpmbs - But at some schools they have core classes anyway they require you to take. I know at Binghamton, if I did a BS in biology, I'd still need to take all their Gen. Eds, so I'd still have a liberal arts background.

Yeah same here; at my school, a BA usually eliminates two of the classes that is required for a BS.

I know some schools that recommend a BA if the student's intention is to teach that subject in high school or middle school, so they have the liberal arts background. They recommend a BS if the student's intention is to go to grad school in the science or pursue a career in the sciences that wouldn't require the liberal arts background.

I believe the BA may require less Physics. For example, under BA, you probably wouldn't be required to take Physics beyond Mechanics.... so you wouldn't take E&M, Optics, etc.

It really doesn't matter if you get a BS or BA. A science degree is a science degree.
