BA or BS?

I've done a lot of research and have asked many people but I'm still undecided.
I have the option of majoring in (1) B.S. Geology and minor in physics or biology, or (2) B.A. in Geology with GIS option (which is in high demand right now) and a minor in possibly CS or urban planning.

From what I've gathered I've found out that there's two different opinions. Some geologists say B.S. is the bare minimum and I should even go for a M.S. if I want to be competitive in the global industry and BA is only for geo techs or high school teachers.
Others say B.A. and B.S. is interchangeable and really depends on the curriculum and that there are plenty of professors and highly successful geologists with a BA degree.

If I go the BA route I will take less math courses but the science courses remain the same and the addition of GIS courses. I'm leaning toward getting the BA because I'm not very good at math but I've always been at the top of my class when it comes to science classes. I will most likely graduate with a higher GPA in BA than if I took BS. Also, It would be at least another 1-2 years after getting my BS to attain a GIS certificate. So with a BA I will graduate on time (4 years) while a BS will be a total of 5-6 years.
