BA vs BFA decision

Dramamom, my son has his first “real” audition for a show AT college this week! Auditions for the three spring mainstage shows are this week, with callbacks a week from tonight. I don’t know what’s crazier–the way I’ll feel as I try to keep my lip zipped and not text to ask him “how’d it go??” or the fact that it’s been a year since he was putting together all those applications and monologues…and now we’re really truly on the other side! Maybe this is why so many of us stick around on the theater board–the auditioning never ends!

Time for another chorus of “drink with me”…

I thought that trudging through all the apps etc was going to be the death of me…but now the waiting for the decisions on the EA auditions is killing me…This will be the longest two months on record.

Break a leg to your son Times3. Luckily my D hasn’t minded me asking how it went. Especially the first time because the process was different so she was willing to share once the auditions were over. She has been through it a couple times now but the big spring auditions are coming up and I can already feel her nerves.

HK… I totally get why you prefer these threads, I used to post on the regular CC forums, but I got my butt kicked a few times when my 2012 K was going through the process, and I just don’t post over there now. I have a FB group with all the cool, great parents from the " 2012 Parents Thread" and that is where I am most of the time… well, except when I’m on here.Even though my S probably won’t be doing any auditions, he is still a theater kid, and I LOVE everyone on here, so I am staying put.

Bisouu… that EA with an audition us exceptionally stressful, because if it happens not be good news, it might even be more stressful for kid going forward. If it is good news, then, YAY!, and you get to go to the rest of the auditions with a huge weight off of your shoulder, and much more relaxed… that is definitely stressful, and I feel for ya. My S was going to do the Chapman early audition, so I would have been right there too, but SO glad he decided against it.

Today, the extra hour of sleep was heavenly! My S is well rested and ready to attack the essay, take two. I don’t know if I told you guys but I became a grandma a few weeks ago, I am going to spend next week in LA with my absolutely beautiful and amazing grandDAUGHTER!!! Yes, I finally got my girl, and I am telling you what… being a grandma is freaking AMAZING!!!

Times… will be keeping fingers crossed for your DS!!! Can’t wait to hear what parts he gets!!

Keep the wine on hand all  And 5boys, congrats on being a grandmom and yeah, a girl!!! About time! Have a great time with her!!! and U will appreciate this for sure. I know another lady with 5 kids, 4 boys, and 1 girl. I think the daughter is forth born. After the sweet baby gal was born, “mom” said something along the lines, of wait, something is wrong, where’s the scrotum  Needless to say, mom likes that story more than her daughter!

Congrats 5boys! Enjoy your trip up to LA to see your granddaughter.

Times3 will your son use new material learned in classes this year for his auditions or can he use his old stuff?

Congratulations to you, 5boys! Puts everything in perspective, I bet! :)

Shacherry, they get audition packets for each show. They’re required to audition for everything–this go-round is for the musical, the “big stage” straight play, and the studio theater straight play (less tech, smaller cast, still faculty-directed). The only thing he can use old material for is the musical, since he has to sing and he had one college that required it last year; after talking to older students in the program he feels fine about using that song for this audition. MT is not his thing, and he isn’t hoping to be cast in the musical, and of course there isn’t a guarantee he’ll get cast at all. So I just keep telling myself “it’s good experience, it’s all good experience” and trying to think about other stuff. ;)

Congrats 5boys!

Times3 -my D has found the older students to be very helpful especially during the first couple of auditions. They are a good source of how things run. And you are right every audition is good practice! BAL

I had a STRONG feeling that the CSS profile would be ugly. Thanks for confirming that feeling, haflokum. I feel more procrastination coming on…

Congratulations on your granddaughter, 5boys!!!

I toggle between here and the MT forum and occasionally the regular board but there really are far too many “chance me” threads. No one can do that so why ask? Oh and ones who say “chance me and I’ll chance you back”. Um, if you can’t chance yourself, how do you plan to chance someone else? HA!

Good luck to all this application/audition season, and bisouu, don’t do too much freaking out now. Pace yourself because there’s lots of freaking out left to do!!

Congrats 5boys!!

The CSS profile for some reason was not on my radar until long after we filled out the fasfa. I was going through making sure everything was on track when I saw it. It was a pain. Something to do on a cruddy day when your stuck in the house.

The freak outs change at every task accomplished. The waiting once it is out of your hands was really hard…BUT…all of you will come out on the other side and by this time next year you kid will be settled in -full swing in their program and you will be counting the days to break so you can catch up with them

thanks broadway :)

Yes that or you will be sitting around waxing poetically about the good old days when all you were worried about was whether or not it was worth it to retake the SAT and if your daughter/son will ever get their CA essay written. That’s because meanwhile your kid at college is sitting in the dark with no heat and electricity because their city was blacked out by a hurricane. All of which will seem like a distant memory when he/she comes down with mono that nearly ends his/her second semester, which also will be trumped by a middle of the night ambulance trip to the ER.

Between my bringing up the CSS profile and now this, I guess I’m just the gift that keeps on giving. I’ll stop now I promise. Hopefully that test and those pesky essays are looking mighty good by now.

funny haflo. We saw the movie Gravity last night to which my kid quipped "next time u think u have a bad day at work, look at the day(as in Sandra Bullock) had. And to not give away too much of the plot, we had a great laugh and came up with scenarios about how that sort of chaos would play itself out at my desk job!!! And see, I can have fun too!! or at least he can  And more on my country life style later. For starters, we have BEARS around!!! Are you scared yet??? Not to mention snakes(in season anyway)!!1 but more on those stories later… I will mention one cat likes bringing baby snakes into the house…

Anyone else watching youtube videos of college auditions? I have a problem.

Why would people put college auditions on youtube? That being said, I slowly raise my hand in answer to your question and say “meeeee…” I’ve maxed out, though, on those and showcase videos. I think I’m done.

I’m a little slow to this whole process so I just found these…yikes!

I’ll confess to having watched some college audition monologues on YouTube. Made me understand why there are so many pleas from colleges NOT to do certain monologues…there’s some pretty heinous stuff out there! Speaking of which, relative to mommabear’s post above and the others on the “visits” thread: sign me up for Team Bear–we don’t get 'em often, but they do visit our yard occasionally, and it makes my dogs go absolutely ballistic. Plenty of blacksnakes too, and my kids have seen a couple of huge copperheads down at a lake near our place, so we are careful. One of my dogs was bitten by a copperhead right outside my classroom door at night–scary, painful (for him) and expensive (for me) incident. I’ll take a bear over a copperhead any day!

Me too times 3.

BLEH!!! I’ve got two words for you Times3, “FOR SALE”. If I ever find even a garter snake in my yard, it will be the first thing I do. Of course I will need to levitate like Wile E Coyote before he plunges off of the cliff in order to be in the yard long enough to hammer it in as I hover above the ground. I could live with the bears, mountain lions, spiders, lizards, rats and anything else no problem. Total card carrying snake phobe however.

I can’t believe the ‘da bears’ subject crossed over to this thread.
