BA vs BS in economics

Hi

Which on is better, BA or BS in economics at Penn? Which one is harder to get into? Does it matter which one to take if I'm gonna get a a master degree?

BA is easier toget into because the BS is at Wharton, but don’t choose a BA if you just want to get in. The BA and the BS are two totally different degrees. The Wharton degree really isn’t that much of a traditional econ degree.

In what ways are they different?

The Wharton School takes a very practical approach to economics in that the degree is highly pre-professional. It will prepare you for legitimate job in business whether your concentration is in marketing, finance, etc etc. The CAS offers the BA Econ degree which is very theoretical and will provide a very academic knowledge of economics. This is useful for research jobs and positions, can often get you a job as an economist, etc. The link below from the Wharton website explains in more detail regarding the difference between the 2 degrees. Just note that both forms of education are solid, but you should apply to the school you most want to go to and the form of education you most desire.

Hope that helps!
