Hi! So, I was accepted to Syracuse and Babson with full tuition scholarships. I was hoping to get some opinions on which one would be better to attend. I want to major in Marketing and Public Relations. I was accepted to the dual major program at Syracuse where I would be able to do business/communications at Whitman and Newhouse (however, it is a 150 credit program)
I love the fact that Babson is filled with others who only want to do business, but I fear that I wouldn’t be able to obtain the communications background I could pursue at Syracuse/Newhouse. Location wise I am leaning more towards Babson due to the proximity to Boston but I wouldnt rule out Syracuse because of where it is located either.
Also, I am afraid I might change my mind about my major. While I am pretty certain I want to pursue business, I recognize that I like the more creative part of it and do not know what may change once I actually start taking classes.
Would appreciate any sort of guidance!
Does the full tuition scholarship for Syracuse include the 5th year for the dual degree program? If not, how much do you have to pay the 5th yr.
@philbegas it does not cover a fifth year, I was told I could apply for financial aid for the summer or the extra year.
If you didn’t qualify for enough fin aid, would your parents be able to help?
@philbegas they could help a little but I would probably have to take out loans. Depending on how I do on my Ap exams I may be going in with anywhere from 20-30 credits
Will you know how many credits you get before you have to reply to the schools?
Hm. I recommend talking to Syracuse’s FA department and asking about that. For example would you get any scholarships at all, would you have the option of the same regular federal aid (pell grant, loans, etc).
@philbegas Financial aid aside, which school do you think is better?
I think it depends. Do you plan on staying in the northeast or moving. Babson is a better business name in the northeast IMO, but Syracuse is better known nationally. In addition, as you said, babson only has business
Have you looked into doing a dual concentration at Babson? I know they don’t have PR but since it’s all the same core classes maybe you can do it in 4.5 years with a dual concentration with marketing + something else you find interesting (if your goal is to get two degrees)
@philbegas I might, right now I think I want to work in DC after college. I will look into doing a dual concentration, I hadn’t even thought about that, thank you!
