Bachelor of Management...?

I'm from Canada and there seems to be a new type of degree entering Canadian schools, the "Bachelor of Management" degree. The Bachelor of Management degree was designed in response to the growing need for university graduates with leadership training and focuses on establishing a solid foundation of technical competence as well as developing leadership skills that are essential in a range of industries.

What does everyone think about this type of degree? Would a degree like this be a good choice for someone looking for a management career? Is it prominent in the states? Would MBA admissions recognize this type of degree?

US schools don't offer it. Some Canadian schools, notably UBC offer a "Bachelor of Commerce." The name is irrevalent though, what matters is what did you learn?

I was actually asking for a friend who's considering enrolling in a Bachelor of Management degree program. The school feels that if you are looking for a career in management then this is the degree for you. However, he has tried searching for other Bachelor of Management degrees (mostly in the States) and hasn’t had any luck. Thus, he feels that if he were to apply to a reputable American MBA program they wouldn't consider/recognize someone with a Bachelor of Management degree because it is not a prominent degree.

Opinions please…

MBA programs don't want someone fresh out of college (with the exception of 3/2 MBA programs). They want someone with a few years of experience, and that experience is all that really matters. The degree could be in veterinary science for all they care, if you have good experience.

I believe the similar US degree would be Bachelor of Business Administration, with a management focus (vs. accounting or marketing).
