Would it be a good idea to just get my bachelors then go straight to work and after a couple of years come back and get my masters or should I just continue on to a masters.

If you already hold a BS in Petroleum Engineering, I don’t see really a point in getting your MS.

In my opinion a MS is good for two things

Precursor to a PhD

Cross training in another discipline, such as MechE BS and PetroE MS.

If you get a MS in X-subject chances are that you’ll be regarded as an X-engineer.

Best case scenario is that you get a job now and then gauge whether you need a MS or not and THEN see if you can get your employer to pay for it. I know a ton of engineers working in Houston to attended UH’s Reservoir Engineering masters program (at night) but on the company dime.

Thats what I was thinking would be the best option from what I’ve heard and researched. Thanks.
