Back in the USSR?

This has nothing to do with college, but those of you who watch the news may have heard about a "new cold war" developing between the United States and Russia? Those of you who are really into international politics and issues like I am may also be aware of the ongoing struggle in Chechnya, the increasing dissent of certain political groups ( such as The Other Russia), russian people's nostalgia for their days of being a world superpower and Russia's control of huge energy and mineral resources. So the question I'd like to ask is: What path is Russia headed down? Are the going to revert to a totalitarian state or will democracy take a firm hold? Just want to know what people are thinking.

I don't think we are really getting into a new cold war, it is just the media throwing out that phrase.

I'd have to agree with you on that one, I think it's just modern media blowing any story they can find WAY out of proportion while important stuff goes unreported. But I think something is happening in Russia, It's just it could go several ways from this current point.

I'm following this a little... One of my best friends is obsessed with Russia (her last article in the school newspaper was about the new cold war)... I think it's being blown outta proportion a little... But I also think its very important to follow what's going on.

Oh, and did anyone else think of The Beatles when they read the thread title?

Exactly. The Beatles rock, and I just thought it'd be a useful title. Sort of like what a lot of news programs do these days with the titles of their stories.

I like the version of the song by the Dead Kennedys more though...

They don't have the economy or the military strength to even revive the cold war.

Just some politicians thinking they have something. China, on the other hand, has the potential to surpass the USA easily. I mean, why wouldn't they.
