Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has had experience with backing out of early decision, specifically for cal poly. On their site it says “Early Decision candidates must be committed to attend Cal Poly. Students admitted under this plan and who accept the terms of admission may be released only for compelling medical or financial reasons”. I understood this when I applied, but here’s my current situation. Cal Poly gave me $X’s in financial aid. College 2 gave me way more than that ($Y). This makes college 2 WAY more affordable, meaning I will have to take out less college loans over the next four years as I cannot afford to pay out of pocket what financial aid doesn’t cover. Is this a good enough reason? Also does cal poly blacklist? I wasn’t sure if i was suppose to withraw my other applications
You need to call admissions. I’ve read of instances where breaking an ED agreement will caused other acceptances to be rescinded. You need to make sure this won’t happen. Also, you may get out of your ED obligation and be just fine, but your reason for doing so really isn’t valid. You made an agreement to attend if you got in…period. Your vetting of whether or not you could afford it should have happened prior to signing. At the point of your acceptance, you were supposed to notify the other schools to pull your applications. Getting a better deal isn’t really legit considering the contract you signed. With that said, I wish you luck. They’ll likely let you out but penalize you by keeping your deposit. Call to make sure. Good luck.
It happens all the time - call them and let them know you are going with plan B due to financial constraints. You will loose your deposit but, that it.
