Early Decision at Cal poly SLO

Hello, I’m applying to cal poly SLO this fall and I want to know whether the ED is really binding. Are you able to apply and then deny their acceptance (if the give you one) even though they say it is binding? I have a UC GPA of 3.8 and a weighted GPA of 4.03 with an SAT score of 1850. I will be applying for computer engineering, which I know is tough to get into. Should I take part in the early decision process?

This is from the website:
:::Early Decision candidates must be committed to attend Cal Poly. Students admitted under this plan and who accept the terms of admission may be released only for compelling medical or financial reasons::

So yes, ED is binding but you are allowed to not accept the offer based on the above reasons. If you feel that SLO is not your #1 choice, then you should not apply ED. If you apply and are not accepted ED, then you will be automatically deferred to RD.

Based on your posted Stats, SLO will be a tough admit even ED.

Good Luck.

Students who apply ED bail every year, sometimes without consequences. The problem is, when there are consequences they can be drastic. There is plenty of precedent of students doing that and then having all of their acceptances rescinded and no place but JuCo to go to school. It’s unethical and potentially disastrous.

@eyemgh…Do you know if a student chooses to apply ED (and is accepted and chooses to attend SLO), do they need to withdraw all their applications to other schools? My daughter would still like to know whether she was accepted to the universities she applied to even if she chooses SLO.

You should ask admissions that question. It is generally assumed that all other applications are withdrawn upon ED acceptance, but they may feel otherwise.
