Backdoor Notification?

I said those who are seriously being considered are also sent in for fin aid consideration - but those are a considerable minority as almost all decisions are already made.

Look, I don't care if you believe me or not, I've already been through this process and have seen what has happened. If you are getting personalized emails from fin aid right now you have a very good chance.

hmm, this puts me in a sort of quandary

2 of my schools asked me to send in (apparently) missing finaid info, but the other two didn't. so am i pretty much out of consideration at those schools, then? b/c i know i must have been missing some forms if the other schools called me.

^^ Same here! The 2 schools I haven't heard from, I probably won't get in (no surprise there). I guess you have to look at your own situation. If some schools have requested more info., and the others have not, it's pretty likely (not definite) that you aren't getting in the schools that are quiet. I realize each f.a. office is different and may have different needs, but seriously if you KNOW your f.a. application is incomplete and you haven't heard from them by now, it's not a good sign. However, if you've turned in everything to every school and none of them have contacted you, I would not worry. The suspect is hearing from some, but not all and the ones you are hearing from just so happen to be the schools where you are more likely to be admitted.

"If some schools have requested more info., and the others have not, it's pretty likely (not definite) that you aren't getting in the schools that are quiet."

I had no idea that I was missing FA forms from Amherst or Williams until after my acceptances came. Also, schools have different requirements in terms of FA forms.

gavroche: I am glad you mentioned that! This gives us a glimmer of hope. Thanks again!!

Williams & Amherst -- WOW!

got request from idoc (idoc said yale requested them)...ya think this is a sign or no? (haha, i don't think so but it doesn't hurt to ask!)

My advice? I'd reccomend not thinking anything about it, even if it means a guarentee. (It doesn't at all) If you expect to get in, and you don't, the rejection will be that much worse. Don't get your hopes up too high yet. (Or ever, just wait for the desicion, its coming soon)

wow, gavroche, that does help a lot for self confidence matters. thanks for posting! =)

and yeah, shark_bite is probably right. we should all just chill. but we're on CC anyways, where people ask for chances a week before admissions are out and where people watch the countdown by the second. ;)

Read it and weep. From a thread re another Ivy...

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=48230&highlight=document+request

ooh, good job finding that thread.

so i guess getting called doesn't mean acceptance. but does not getting called mean rejection?

Thanks for the thread and here are my observations after reading the posts:

A) Colleges are cruel
B) Admissions makes their decisions up until the last minute. A candidate who was in the accept pile one week was moved to the reject pile a week later and one week before decisions are posted.
C) Financial Aid Offices are totally inefficient and create work for themselves by requesting info. and preparing packages for applicants who will not be offered an acceptance. P.S. -- I am talking not about preliminary number crunching for ALL appicants or blanket emails but asking certain applicants for specific information right until the last minute.

it means you are probably rejected.

First of all, not everyone who applied applied for FA. Second, if everyone who were accepted got these calls, this forum would be over-run with threads just like this, so worry not :)

There's only 6 days left! I know it's human to want to look into this but usually these things don't pan out. At Intel on the day of the awards ceremony 10 "random" kids were talked to, and walked out of this room looking really happy and went to get interviewed with the NY Times, and a lot of kids were getting suspicious because exactly 10 kids get ranked at the awards, so the whole group was abuzz with rumors that those were the top 10. Only a couple of those kids made it. Point is, don't think about it, just wait another 6 days and see :) Good luck!
