I am going to be a senior next and am kind of freaking out that I still have a weak ACT score. I will probably take it once more in the fall but going off of what I have now, how much will it hurt me?

I have a 3.6 uw gpa and 3.8 weighted. I've taken mostly honors and ap classes and have good extracurriculars activities. Also, I have very good letters of recommendations.

If my ACT score is only three-ish points away from the schools range and my gpa is in range, do i still have a decent shot at getting accepted?

You need to tell us the name of the school.

3 points on ACT is quite a massive difference. If you are 3 (three-ish? I’m guessing that is 4) points below the 25th percentile score, you are not going to be accepted at the most selective schools.

*I have now taken the ACT three times and have got practically the same score on each of the tests. I studied a little for the first one, nothing more for the second and a lot for the last one. I expected to get a much high score on the last one considering I actually studied for it(thought about 5 points higher).

When I took the practice tests the week before the actual test, I got a 28 and 31. Those are the scores I am shooting for but my real test was much lower.

What do you think could be the problem and what could/should I do differently if i do decide to retake it?*

If you’re saying that your real score was “much lower” than an ACT 28, what was it? And which schools are you looking at? I know that you’re looking at UTexas, but that school largely admits by rank…what is your class rank?

What was the breakdown of your ACT? Is your Science Reasoning low? if so, then take the SAT…no SR on that.

My score was a 23 which just puts me in range for University of Oregon, UMASS Amherst and Syracuse University. Although those would be okay for me, I would like to have more options because I know I can get at least a 28.

The schools that are out of my range are University of Wisconsin, UTexas and Boston University. I would also love to have a shot at UMich but that is out of range as of now.

I plan on re-taking it for the last time but this time using the red book.

My class rank is probably top 15-20 percentile but am not sure.
