Bad campus?

I know I just made a chances thread, but I forgot to include this question.

My uncle has said that the campus at UChicago is generally bad and unsafe, but this was some 10 years ago. Is/was this true?

Thanks!!

false.

it is good and safe.

Why are people so afraid of the inner city? Where do you people live? Whiteville, USA?

Don't be afriad of the campus, if you don't mess with anyone, no one will mess with you.

As far as I'm aware, Chicago is no more or less safe than your typical college campus. What I can say is that I've never felt unsafe here, particularly during the day. There are blue emergency lights all over-- both off-campus and on-- so if you run into trouble those are good resources.

Chicago is in an unusual neighborhood. Parts of it are very nice, and parts are rather sad. If you use common sense-- don't go "exploring" by yourself if you don't know exactly where you're going, travel in groups when walking, or on buses and subways, don't wear headphones when you're outside-- you'll be absolutely fine.

Its ridiculously pretty, and ridiculously over-protected. that is all.

Well I'm actually in chicago visiting now and dad and i just got back from driving to the campus (without a map and in the dark, for heaven's sake) and once you actually get on campus it's not bad at all. In fact, it's quite nice. I'm looking forward to seeing it in daylight tomorrow. We did drive through some really rough spots south of campus, but there was some space between and there were security lights and police cars everywhere on and surrounding campus.

Your uncle is completely wrong.

hey, kathryn07, we may have bumped into each other. You were at the columbus day program?

yes i was, but it would be quite a coincidence if we bumped into each other since there were so many people there!
