I recently added a class at the last minute and needed the professor to sign the add card.

He looked angry and said straight up that he has "a dim view of people who make last minute decisions". He proceeded to lecture me about how I'm irresponsible and that I could've emailed him earlier.

Yes, it was my fault, but I thought he was a bit harsh especially since it was the first time I've ever met him.

Will this affect how he grades me?

It might. What you need to do is make sure that you apologized to him and to do really well in the class and impressing him. Basically you're going to have to work harder.

You don't need to work harder...if you do then the professor is selecting you out of everyone because of this decision (which he shouldn't). Don't worry about it...if you're not looking to use him as a reference or anything just go to class, study, and get them A's

Just be a responsible student. He shouldn't be holding any grudges once the semester settles down.

Assuming you weren't past the final add/drop date, he really has no right to complain.

Meh, don't apologize, that's only playing into this losers god complex.

Just hope he doesn't remember your name. The guy sounds like a tool.

Don't be moralistic, and ignore your sense of your own rights here. Suck up, suck up, suck up!! (ie Ace the class and be nice to him. Do you know his date of birth? There might be a Wikipedia article on him or some biographical information floating around.)

My name is pretty distinctive and he'll remember. I go to a LAC and the classes are small.

I read some course evaluations for him and it seems like hes a good guy altho i did come across a few describing him as a "smart but angry man" and that he's subtly condescending to most of his students.

Oh well, this class is in my major so I'll just have to suck it up.

Your professor is a ******.

then you aren't being singled out! problem solved.

He's being a tad ridiculous, in my opinion. Would there be extra work for him in any way because of your late sign-up? Maybe look into this. There may be some things that you don't know about (does he make up individual tests for students? I've heard of this before to combat cheating).

Don't feel bad though. If you were within the time limit for signing up, you did nothing wrong. If he wants to chew students out because he's having a bad day, too bad for him.
