There's a chance of my family moving to Arizona. Would it's mess up my ECs....like leadership positions for example? If we move next year, I'll be a junior btw.

i've been to three high schools because of moving to new states. i won't lie to you, it will mess up some leadership positions (in my case, i was never able to get student council because each high school class votes for its representatives during the previous year). but the good news is that you can still keep some of them and colleges take the fact that you moved into account, as long as you stick it in an essay somewhere. as for ECs in general, join the ones that you were in at your old school, as well as a few new ones. if they don't have one that you would like to continue, start it up as a new club at the new school. that way you'll get a continuous EC and a leadership position as the club's president.

I can also attest to this. I had two sets of EC's. Ones from school and the other from church. Moving from OH ---> GA was tough at first. I had numerous leadership positions. Obviously, when you are new, it is harder to get leadership positions. I am currently not involved in any leadership positions at school. The key is to continue involvement at the new school in the same clubs you lead before. Not only will that show consistency, but also humility. As for church, my pastor contacted my new pastor and currently I am a Sunday School Teacher and co-choir director. Not as much as before but I still am active. And I was recently accepted into Rice University so I know that this works. Goodluck, I hope everything works out.

For me, at least, it messed them up. I was student council secretary, president of four clubs, leadership roles in three more, editor-in-chief for the school newspaper, and the lead tech for drama. I moved my senior year and lost all of that since my new school had none of those clubs. Couldn't be elected for anything that they voted for the year before.

I ended up joining several new clubs, which -- since they didn't have anyone elected -- I became president of. And truthfully, they voted the new kid because I give a good impression. I guess I have to say that it's awful losing old clubs, but there are new ones. And, hopefully, there's plenty of out-of-school work to be done! (Don't know what part of Arizona you're moving to, but I've lived in the Phoenix area and Tucson area, and there's always plenty to join.)

Me too. i was on the varsity competition squad (cheerleading), national math honor society, science national honor society, and Beta club, and played the oboe b4 i switched 2 a new skool out of state and now i only do Beta club, play cello, and high Iq, and 10th grade secretary. So yes it screws you up to a certain extent but just be willing 2 adapt and you'll succeed

^ and ^^: that's a lot of clubs...
