Moving in High School

Hey!

So I am currently a sophomore and I just found out I am moving from the east coast to Texas next year. I currently am a part of lots of clubs and extra curriculars. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to move and still appear ambitious to colleges. It is like starting for the bottom in a new place for internships and extra curriculars.

Thanks!

Been there; done that. It’s hard, but you appear to be approaching it with the right attitude. Look for the same/similar ECs in your new school/town. Ask the people in your current activities if they have any connections in Texas. This is called networking, and it’s never to soon to learn how to do it. Odds are that you may not end up with leadership positions, but you will demonstrate commitment.

Edit: Learn to fit in. Quickly. I never really did, and I had a bad junior year. Not academically but everything else. Try to figure out how kids dress before the first day of school. Maybe there’s more of a national “standard” these days, but in my day (1968) California Bay Area to Chicago North Shore was moving between decades as well as miles. Be prepared for culture shock, although it may not be too bad depending on where you are coming from and where you are moving to.
