I currently attend George Washington University and received a 2.86 cumulative GPA for my freshman year. Is it possible to even try for law school at this stage?

For my first semester I contracted pneumonia and was in and out of the hospital for a while, and I had to play catch up a lot. However, I ended up getting better grades this semester than my second, partly due to sympathy from my professors I believe.
I received a 3.17 GPA this semester.

For my second semester though, I think I tried to live the 'freshman life' by going out and having fun, and my grades suffered as a result. I also was busy trying to maintain a relationship which ended right before my finals started, and I was pretty stressed out because of that. I was also pretty cocky in deciding my classes, and took a lot of upper level courses believing that I could handle them.
I received a 2.6 GPA this semester.

I am also interested in taking history as a major.

I am confident that I can study hard enough to receive upwards of 3.5 gpa's in the future and will do well on the LSAT's. I have not yet started studying for them, but I plan on doing that this summer. I am wondering though, can I still dream of going to law school? I have heard that the first year counts a lot, and will this first semester hinder me in the admissions process? While going to a T14 school would be good, I never imagined on going to those schools. I had always planned on going to my alma mater for law school. Would it still be possible if I worked hard on my grades and got high scores on my LSAT?
