Hey, I want to apply to the Ivy’s
GPA 3.5 (RIP) UW, weighted is 4.0ish
Got a lot of B’s Junior year…
Took 13 Ap tests junior year however, and got 12 5’s
ACT 36
SAT 1570
SAT 2 math 800, phys 800
EC’s own a non profit, worked in UCB, national sport player (cricket) etc
Are you an international applicant? Just thought so because of the cricket.
no, I am a CA based applicant
You have great stats for top schools in the U.K.
Looks like the only thing holding you back is your GPA so I would say go for it! Some colleges really care about your GPA while others will be willing to overlook it.
@ diamondking2… In your opinion what Ivy leagues will I have a shot at? I want to major in statistics and machine learning…
Do you have any hooks? Otherwise I could see that GPA being your pitfall. As strong as the other elements of your application are, the Ivies could fill their seats 10x over with high GPAs and ACTs. I would suggest perfecting your essay and getting superb recs. Of course, at this stage in the game, I don’t know if you can change much. Best of luck at an Ivy, but please find some safeties and matches you’d be happy at.
@pineapple86 Yeah… My hooks are that my mom died and I have a single parent, the second person my dad remarried tried to rob us of money and my dad was in a divorce, also the major B’s I got in hs were only in irrelevant classes like Spanish, while I aced the STEM classes like AP Calc, Stats, Phys, Comsci etc…
Clearly, you have the ability to get As. Make sure your essays address what has been going on in your personal life – not as an explanation of your performance but as a way to show who you are. Yes, the choosiest of schools may pass on you for a couple of Bs, but they might have passed anyway. Or not. Your essays are going to matter, and having and maintaining good grades senior year is important . You have nothing to lose. You will definitely get into a good school, if not an ivy.
Like I also moved from India halfway during highschool… Like does that act as an hook?
