Bad grade in AP course; how will it look to colleges?

I'm really scared that my C in AP Biology will affect my chances of getting into college. I have no idea how I did on the exam in may. But it's my first C and I'm very afraid it will show colleges that I cannot handle college level coursework especially because I'm planning to be a physician's assistant/pharmacist/or engineer. I'm interested in pretty selective schools like Boston U, Northeastern, Duke, and Carnegie Mellon. What will they think? Have I totally ruined my chances? I get solid As in regular level courses and usually B+/A- in honors but I don't know if this is enough to compensate for the C.

Yes, you are right that is a not a good grade (I got a C in spanish and didn’t deserve it). Especially for the majors you’re considering. However you should try from now on to get A’s in all of your science classes (if you’re not a senior yet). Are you taking AP Physics next year? You should take it and get an A in that course, maybe that could help. If you haven’t already, try to take AP Calculus and get an A in that class too. It will show colleges that you are still good at math and science (overall).
Hope that helps. :)

It also depends on how you did on the AP test, if you get 4 or 5 on the test. You should be fine. The general logic for APs is, take them only when you know you can do well in the classes.

Unfortunately my school does not offer many AP courses; we only have biology, literature, calculus, and history. I was planning on taking on AP Calculus but it would cause me to be unable to take required courses to graduate so I’m going self study and take the exam at the end of the year . I’m very motivated when it comes to math so hopefully I’ll get a 5 on the exam. But it wouldn’t matter because that would be the end of senior year AFTER the college application process. I’m so confused "/

Let’s put it this way, you spilled the milk already. So don’t worry about it. There is not much you can do but to do well on other classes.

You will be fine, don’t worry. Good luck

Thanks jhu youre right if anything I got out of that course, it’s that biology is not for me.

Was it a C for the year or for the quarter?

Well it’s two semesters and basically a C both semesters lol yeah…not too good
