Just got deferred EA. OOS, 1530 New SAT 3.9 UW 4.7 W. First quarter I received 2 B’s and this quarter I am probably going to get 3. Is it a bad idea to not send my first semester grades? I don’t think they are going to strengthen my app (as much as just sending a Letter of Continued Interest will) as these are less-than stellar imo.
Hah I have 2 Cs this semester. 2 Bs aren’t gonna kill you.
If they asked you to send, then yes it will hurt not the send…if they said they have what they need, then don’t.
“Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.” I live chatted with someone from the admissions office and she said it’s not required, optional for people who think sending will make stronger. I’ll have around a 3.5-3.6 UW, which is a pretty big drop from my cumulative GPA.
If they told you to send them and you do not it will be an incomplete application resulting in a denial.
If you don’t send them when asked, they will consider that as a passive withdraw. Keep in mind that Umich uses a rolling admissions process after EA, meaning as more open seats close, it becomes more competitive.
@umcoe16 Thanks, I’ll send them but are 2 B’s (Calc BC and Physics C) a major red flag?
Not really. Those are hard classes. Bs are not Cs!
@soccer674 I don’t think that will end up being the deal breaker. Especially if those are your first AP classes, and you are adjusting to that kind of rigor, they should understand. Just hopefully no more B’s than that.
@umcoe16 I’ve taken a good amount of AP’s (12 including senior year, 13 if you count micro and macro as two classes) just struggling a bit as they’re pretty difficult classes.
@soccer674 if you are an otherwise A student, that shouldn’t straight up obliterate your chances for admission, but you definitely want to make sure you improve, even if after sending in these grades, you won’t do so again until after May 1. Keep in mind that Umich courses are much more rigorous than your AP classes.
