Bad luck!!

hey guys,
this is my first quarter here and I cant believe how bad some of the professors are!!!!!!!!
I have a class that the professor has not thougt anything before! She is absolutley boring and unclear all the times& doesnt know what she is doing!!
then I have this TA for ChE who has an awfull accent and I have a real hard time understanding what she says. It basically sounds like she is talking in some Asian language! This is really frustrating people!!!
as a transfer student I actually was expecting something better than this.
ok...so tell me, should I get used to this or is it just bad luck this quarter.

a lot of math and science professors have accents

have fun

lol sorry to say, but depending on what classes you take (like the above poster said) I think you'll have to get used to it

it's lkike that everywhere.,...

i guess thes best thing u can do is bruinwalk them beforehand, ask your friends abt them, and try out diff T/As... :-</p>

the best way to be able to decipher that accent? get a friend who has the same heavy accent and talk tot hem a lot

This is trite on my part, but...

Welcome to the research university. Enjoy the ride.

If out of three/four classes you're taking there's only one professor that stands out as boring and one TA that stands out as unintelligible then I would say that no, it's not bad luck. It's quite common. If all of your professors are boring and many professors/TAs are unintelligible then that might be bad luck. Try to avoid such professors by using websites like ratemyprofessors.com. In fact I think UCLA has its own system where professors are reviewed (the name escapes me at the moment). But like the others have said, get used to the large research university.

I think you may have expected a little too much of UCLA.. or many public universities in general (especially in the west coast b/c of the number of immigrants, etc.)

when I attended one of UCLA's classes during the summer time, my Chinese statistics professor could not speak even the most basic English. His accent was so bad that a fluent Chinese speaker like myself could not even understand him. My TA was pretty irresponsible for he cared nothing more than to give us all the answers and discuss how attractive Michelle Kwan is.

Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed with UCLA. However, you and I should not judge a school based on a few negative experiences. I'm sure you will find some classes like that at any college. Try to look on the bright side and adjust a bit.

good luck!

I take it you're taking CH ENG 109?

I love her accent.

Her: WRITE A RORGRAM!
Me: WHAT?!!!!
HER: RORGRAM!
Me: RORGRAM?!!!
HER: YES RORGRAM!
Me: OH!! Program.

P.S. Phillis' homework is pretty easy. I hate Monoboquette's homework (102B), hard, frustarating and long as hell. Had to pick up Fundamentals of Mass Transfer by Incopera. BSL is such an unapproriate textbook for undergraduate level. It's meant for engineers as Professor M said himself.
