Bad Sat Math 2 Score

SAT scores today! I received my Math 2 score, a 740, and plan to retake it for an 800. Hypothetically lets I get an 800 the second time I take it. For the schools that use score would I need to send the 740 as well? And if I did for schools such as Cornell and UPENN would my “800” be tarnished by this 740?

No one can really say how they would compare Applicant A who took the test only once and got 800 vs. Applicant B (you) who took it twice with scores of 740 and 800. At college info sessions, I heard that SAT subject test scores are not as important as many other parts of the application.

No they’ll look at the 800. Actually the 740 is good enough for practically anywhere except possibly Caltech which has a reputation for being more scores driven.

@mathmom would I even need to send the 740 to schools that use score choice?

No. Though as always read the fine print.

@mathmom So technically those schools wouldn’t even see the 740 to begin with?

Of course not. How would they? Some no score choice colleges require you to send all the subject test scores if you send an SAT score, some don’t. That’s where you have to read the fine print.
