Bad to have best SAT in one sitting (by a large margin)?

I've taken the SAT twice

Jan 2008:
610 M
600 V
720 W

May 2008:
650 M
720 V
720 W

Does it look bad that my first score was much worse than my second? I'm really content with my scores and don't really want to take them again in Oct/Nov but don't know if I should.. Suggestions?

it’s not that much of a difference..but theres nothing ‘bad’ about improvement. It’ll just show that you prepared way better the second time. Anyway, if you’re happy with your score, then don’t waste time taking them again. It depends with what schools you’re looking into though.

That’s the other problem… I really have no clue where to apply.
My sister was a senior this year and saw her go through the whole college process but I’m the worst decision maker ever and have no clue what I want, or qualify for.

very nice improvement! kudos to you!

howd u go from a 600 in CR to a 720!? i got a 600 my first time and i really wanna get a 650+ my second time, teach me ;p

lol CR is hardest to improve! good job!

thanks! :)

actually JJ09, i did extensive prep before january and wasn’t very happy so for may, i did the ultimate sat no-no and didn’t study until the day before when I took a practice test. I just got really interested in all the passages I was reading, and I guess I just had a lot of luck on the May test!

spiceupyourlife, your username is so sweet! it’s great to see another spice girls fan on college confidential! =]

ha sorry i couldn’t help myself.

thanks!!!

So do you guys think I should take it again? I mean, take into consideration I’m not shooting for Ivies

nah, i think you’re fine! your scores are around the ivy-range!!

Yeah, I think you’re fine. Unless you’re planning on majoring in like engineering or another math-based field. Then maybe you should consider retaking.

People post because their scores went down.

People post because they have to “super score” to get what they want.

You’re posting because your scores went up and you’re satisfied.

Huh?

I guess in that perspective it does seem weird. Its just you read CC and think no scores are good enough compared to practically everyone on here. Its hard to decipher whats enough

lol…cc’ers…so darn comical.

I agree and think those are great scores for any schools, but I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of a retake too soon. Just a suggestion.

Your Writing score seems to be set, unless you go through your score report and find any obvious weaknesses. Otherwise, its writing, is an awesome score.

Now, your verbal score. It seems that your enjoyment of the passages helped you greatly. This is very believable because not many people do well when they can’t bear to read the passages. It seems you have hit the right key. Now, if you hit a few more keys, something might just happen. Look at your score report. Was vocabulary a problem, or the reading passages, or both? If so, see if you can develop a pattern to follow when attacking the passages. Do you check off the questions on the passages, then read, and etc. Point is, find a groove. Also, for vocabulary, if it is an issue, try to find out through threads here, if you just didn’t know the words or made a mistake. Again, pattern. Look for sentence clues and see what word spaces should be negative or positive, or if both are opposing each other, or if both flow together. Really get a feel for the necessary word.

All this CR Prep can be achieved with a lot of practice. You didn’t do much before the test, it seems you have a greater potential. Don’t get me wrong, you have an amazing CR score, and I am not being condescending with any suggestions, its just, give yourself another shot of you feel you can do better. I don’t know which schools you are interested in, but, if you now your ability, you might as well show it at its fullest.

Math. A 650 tells me there were only a handful of questions that kept you out of the 700 range. Going from a 650 to a low-mid 700 is just about repetition for the SAT. When you do many many real SAT math sections over and over, you realize that the CBs arsenal is only so large. The few new questions that they put on their determine the 800. But, again, you know yourself better than anyone else, so, if you feel you can, go for it.

I just want to conclude saying, you have a great score- but, don’t shortchange yourself… ever.

akahmed is completely right. I know in my neighborhood, every 10 point difference matters, and sometimes there are fights over who’s the smartest based on what individual section we excel out. You should therefore aim to reach your potential on EVERY section.

^…fights over who is smarter based on the SAT?
wow…

I’ve seen those. It’s funny to watch and then near the end see someone else tell them they scored 500 points higher.

HAHAH! thats weird. what kind of crazies would do that…
just for an update: i did take it again in oct!
i went up again and actually got a 750 on cr and another 650 on math (boo on math!)
anyway,yeah.
