Bahaha, another 'chance me.'

Hey Everyone!

I'm a rising junior in high school. I would like to attend Harvard (for pre-med most likely), and I wanted to know if I had a chance and how exactly I'd go about applying (my sibling isn't exactly helpful, neither is my guidance counselor).

I took AP World History my freshman year, got a 4 but a C in the class. (It was rough to say the least...)
AP Bio sophomore year, got a 5 and an A in the class.

I'm taking 6 APs next year: AP English, AP US history, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental, AP German, AP Calculus BC. I'm also planning on self-studying for AP Psych or AP Econ.
So that's 7 junior year, and I'm probably going to take 7 my senior year.

ECs:
-6 week internship at research facility, and research during the year (I got invited back, I was enthralled :P).
-Service club - which basically means I do 50+ hours of service every school year.
-Youth and Government (hoping to secure a leadership position)
-German American Exchange Program
-Newspaper (hoping to become the senior editor)
-Debate club (I believe I'm a varsity debater...who knows?)
-Dance (since I was like... 6)

-Varsity Lacrosse (aiming for captain when I'm a senior)
-JV Cross Country (aiming for captain when I'm a senior)

I know these aren't all that extravagant, and I was hoping y'all could suggest what else I could add to this list. I'm up for anything, I'm kind of desperate. :P
I wanted to do something with my writing but I wasn't sure what. I'm not good enough to write a book, I just kind of like expressing my views on things. Can I go anywhere with that? lol.

SAT - around 2100 right now, I'm taking it again in October and aiming for a 2400.

I have a very strong relationship with my teachers, and obtaining recommendations will be no problem at all.

I will be taking the following SATIIs: Bio-M, German, Chem, and Math II

Like I said, I have very little information about college and I want to know what I need to do and when I need to do it in order to get in to Harvard Premed.

Lol, I know it sounds rather naive and childish, but I’ll get there. You’ll see.

great course load. Your sports are great too (Princeton, Hopkins, Duke, and Cornell have strong lacrosse programs – look into those colleges too). Don’t worry about AP world history, many people struggle to get above a B. I got an A-, but my teacher loved me and was biased on my essays :/. Try some Math Team and Science Olympiad (state and national competitions are great for college) as well as some research. Getting above a 2250 (people tend to get 2300’s in harvard) would be great. Try to get above a 760 for bio, and 800 for chem and math II since those are the average ivy scores. Posting your GPA so far is another indicator (exclude APWH) of how you are doing so far and it will be easier to chance you. Show a huge intrest in harvard. Visit it twice. Show them that they should choose you over the other many applicants. I can personally guarantee that you have a better shot at princeton (imo i like it better than harvard), but showing some more intrest in math + science would be great.

@tekkenmaster

anything is possible with a bit of luck.

Just keep practicing, thuglyfe. Your SAT can be as high or as low as you make it. Good luck :]

@ tekkenmaster: I’m taking the *********** SAT prep course, currently. That finishes in a week, after which I will move on to the blue book. I have a 1000 word list (compiled by **) which I’m covering (100words/week). I’m also working on that 10 steps to a 12 on writing post from collegeconfidential (I forgot the user name, I think it was by Academic Hacker). That consists of compiling examples and transitions beforehand and then using those on test day to breeze through the essay. I really suck at math, and I think that’s where I need the most help. The is helping a tad, but I’m still open to options. The SAT is in November, and I think the PSAT is before it, which will also be great practice.

SATIIs: I consider my self proficient in Bio and German so those should be 800s, and I know some people argue that language SATIIs are insanely hard, but with ample practice from prep books, a year in AP German, and a German exchange program, I think I should be able to get there. Reasonable: 790 for both.
Chem: I’ve taken honors, and I passed with flying colors. But then again, that was honors. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll be taking AP next year, and since Chem is my favorite subject I guarantee I can get at least a 700+.
MathII: My least favorite subject, but since it is more practice oriented and conceptual, I think a solid two months with prep books should give me a 700+.
I know these are rather vague, but it’s better than nothing.

Lol, and I’m a girl. Pineapple Express just strikes my fancy.

@przgonna: thanks for believing in my aspirations for a 2400. I’m working tirelessly, and I’m open to any advice if y’all have any!
I’m on the Science Academic Team. And I believe I’m signed up for the Biology Olympiad for next year. Does that count? As for olympiads, our school doesn’t really have them. What would be the procedure for starting a club?
I’m definitely going to visit Harvard over spring break, maybe even fall break. Just curious though, where on my application would I include such visits?
@elbeeen: Thanks! I know I’m capable of a 2400, if you have any extra advice at all I will take it!

A general question:
Most threads I’ve been reading about extra cirriculars tell people to focus on one or two things at most, I’m kind of all over the place with mine.
What, out of the ECs mentioned in the first post, could I concentrate on?
Out of them, imo, I’m best at dance (hip-hop), however there is absolutely no scope for that where I live. I’ve gotten into the elite competition teams but practices are super far away and it’s too much of a time committment.
What should I concentrate on? I know that’s kind of an odd question, since y’all don’t know me, but still.

okay I don’t know why ivy insiders is being starred. It’s definitely not a swearword. Is it because it’s a company name?

I basically made my whole resume my junior year-
remember, it’s not really the grades or scores (in my opinion) that matter but what you do/are that makes you ORIGINAL

I did a whole bunch of prestigious internships at the national level, and honestly, they were EASY but they look great on paper.

The elections are coming up- try something there, intern with the governor, a campaign, a congressmen, they ALWAYS need help and make your initiative-
you really have to excel in something to get in, good luck!

AGHHH. How/where can I obtain entry into these prestigious internships?

Elections… hmmm… wheels turning thanks, dude!
