My daughter will be making a decision between these schools in the coming weeks. Does anyone have any input on which is the better program and why?

Does she have a personal preference? I was out last night with 6 other moms who have all gone through this process this year. Each of us said our kids felt right at one school or another, sometimes as a surprise to themselves, how much one just fit

At this stage of the decision making process it is about picking the program that feels like the right program to your D. She has three terrific options, but the programs are different from one another. No better or worse… all just different. Size or school, location, curriculum… different. Exciting to have such terrific options! :)

Great choices! Agree with other comments. It will be what feels right. All very, very, different schools. It will depend what she wants out of the college experience.

Our son auditioned at two of those 3; he decided early on he didn’t want to go to school in New York, but would prefer to save that for later, meaning life in the big city could wait a few years. That said, he has had several friends at Tisch with varying degrees of success. Two of the three love it. One young woman was cast in How to Succeed with Daniel Radcliffe before graduation and is on an extended leave from NYU.
But our S did not audition at NYU.
He wanted a BFA program but not necessarily a conservatory – and he was a bit cool to BW though he recognized the talent of their faculty
Indiana seemed a better fit for him and he is thrilled to be there, picking it over BoCo in the end. Indiana is a BFA but on a big school campus. But his freshman musical theatre class is just 13 students and soph class is 8. total IU program no more than 40 and the program wants to stay that compact to allow close contact with faculty. So, even though IU is big, the campus seems small in that his dorm is across the street from theater bldgs and there are practice rooms in his dorm, as well as at Jacobs School of music two blocks away and in the theater complex across the street.
S also wanted access to a strong dance program and is able to take dance classes at IU with the dance majors. he auditioned with the dance faculty and was allowed to do that. He is very happy with the flexibility of the voice program, too; loves the dance classes and has had outside of school work with Bloomington Playwrights project all in his freshman year, the latter being a professional company in Bloomington that focuses on new works, workshops of new plays and musicals.
BW and Indiana btw now share a New York showcase for their seniors, partnering this month for the first time, each with graduating classes of 13 men and women. He is thrilled with the voice faculty at IU, particularly Ray Fellman and Terry LaBolt and with the camaraderie among his class and the upper classmen as well.

While the advice to go with what feels right in your student’s gut is right on target… consider that BW placed every single one of its grads with an agent following NYC showcase last year and the list of Broadway performers is extensive. For me, that record of success after college speaks for itself. We also like that BW offers the best of both worlds with the small-town campus just minutes away from a big city Playhouse Square… which is just one of the collaborators with the program. Guess I’m biased though… my daughter is still a year away … but BW is her top choice.
