Bandwidth limit now 50gb

CIT: NUBB Fees and Billing

Pretty decent amount I have to say. 20gb was just a bit
stingy imho.

kingpin can you give an example of a month’s worth of usage that would have hit the 20GB mark? I’m having a hard time getting a feel for how limiting, or not, the limit is. Thanks :)

20GB a month is roughly 700 MB a day.

-A standard webpage is 500KB.
-A YouTube video is about 1MB per minute.
-A song is about 10MB.

20GB isn’t too bad, it’s mainly the downloads that would cause you to hit that mark rather than just surfing the internet. 50GB is obviously better.

Thanks. What would a minute of audio or video skyping be (I realize those are 2 separate numbers)

Anywhere from .5MB to 5MB per minute, but it depends on your connections. I’d say the .5 should be around what it is for audio only and 5 would be with video, but it’s hard to say.

Edit: 50GB per month is almost exactly 1700MB per day, good luck reaching that :)

Thanks, that’s very helpful!

I think it was 10 GB my freshman year…

Excellent news! Now I won’t have to worry about getting bursared for watching football online! >:-) And yes, 20GB was pretty stingy when you consider how Cornell nickel and dimes you everywhere else.

How much would downloading or streaming movies take?

Wasn’t there another way to go around these limits before? I can’t remember the name…

50GB makes me happy. Not that I ever blew the 20GB bar, but I’d like not having to be conscious of my bandwidth usage.

You could always use DC++ for most of your entertainment ‘needs,’ unless you have obscure tastes that have to be serviced with gigabytes of bandwidth.

I didn’t see a problem with the old system. A couple of gigs is more than fine if all you do is check websites, read email, etc. If you want to tie up the line streaming massive amounts of porn, fine. But, you should have to pay for it.

Streaming entirely depends on the quality you’re streaming at. A good high quality source like Hulu or Netflix would be like 10MB per minute in standard definition or 30MB per minute for high definition.

This is great! I kept getting like low 20s GB a couple times and it was annoying to have to pay like 5 bucks extra every month. 50 is perfect haha.

two words: steam sale

I have hence learned to rely on DC++
