Long story short, the limit on your data is now 10GB instead of 20GB.
Half of what it should have been -.-
How much do you all use a day!? Will this suffice?

Back when I was at Cornell only a few years ago, it was 2 GB. Went over that once I think. Even then, the overage charges are ridiculously low.

Links or it didn’t happen?

So you can only download 10gb worth of stuff from using Cornell’s internet per day?

or download + upload

Per month. I think it’s download + upload. Within Cornell doesn’t count. And you can use more bandwidth, but you have to pay extra for it if you do.

Does using the library computers count toward the bandwidth allowance too? My guess is that as long as you don’t constantly stream HD porn, you’re fine with 10gb per month. But still, I think this is ridiculous since I do a lot of web programming and require constant upload/downloading of large file.

I don’t think library usage counts…

this 10gb is a downer… i do like 5x more than that a month :/

What are you talking about?
I still have 20 GB per month.

And just to clarify, the 20gb limit is only when you’re off-campus.

meaning that if you live on campus (a.k.a. frosh) there is no limit, is that right?

^ oh sweet! I thought so otherwise…

Sorry guys but I’m pretty sure the limit applies when you use your own computer in the dorms and elsewhere on campus. From what I can tell, the only times it doesn’t apply are for bandwidth within Cornell (i.e. accessing Cornell sites and not stuff on the rest of the Internet) or if you use a Cornell computer in a lab or library. (I have seen people say you can download stuff to a lab computer and then transfer it via a thumb drive – not sure if this is true or not.)

How fast is the internet up in Ithaca? Is it fast enough for HD video streaming, etc?

LOL. Berkeley has a limit of 12 gb per week

Anything site that doesn’t contain some form of .cornell.edu contributes to the 20GB total if you’re using your own computer/internet-capable devices. The internet here is pretty fast–last time I checked I had around 60-70Mbps download.

So I am definitely not computer savvy… is there any way for me to check how many GB I’m currently using per month so I can get a good idea of what that translates into for browsing time?

^ I’m also wondering that too…

Everyone uses DC++ for movies, music, TV shows, etc. It doesn’t count against the 10 GB limit bc it runs internally on Cornell’s network. You can only access DC++ if you are on-campus.

How reliable are DC++ networks? I heard that colleges tend to find them eventually and take them down.
