which bank/credit union has the best options for students at northeastern for benefits and location? and are there any cons about credit unions?(most sites say credit unions are way better than banks for college)

Bank of America

whats good about BOA?

when i transferred to northeastern i used to have a bank of america campus edge checking account or whatever it was called…completely free to use and no minimum balance for like 5 years or something. i agree with Totoro that they are the most convenient since there are BoA ATM’s everywhere. There are two BoA ATM’s in the Marino center… at least as of a few years ago, not sure if they’ve changed since i graduated.

Best,
Scom

Yup, they have totally free banking and ATMs all over campus.

“Totally free” might not be true anymore. Like, it was for me (and still is- I have no idea when it stops being a campus account…). But I think I heard from a friend who got an account after me that some of the fees weren’t free anymore. I think mine doesn’t have any minimum balance to be fee-less, whereas her’s requires one… But I pretty much have no idea.

There isn’t much choice in Boston though. Most places are BOA.

I’ve actually been on campus for 2 years and not opened a bank account in Boston. I use my account from home and mostly use my debit card and have never had a problem.
From what I’ve seen, BoA is probably the best bet, but depending on what you’re doing, you may not need to.
