What is the best option for out-of-state whose parents only have a Credit Union account?

I didn’t even know that Northeastern had a credit union. I am still using my home bank account, but a lot of people have BoA and there are a lot of locations/ATMs around and near campus. I think almost all my friends have BoA accounts.

What about a good suggestion on credit cards?

Do you have to pay ATM fees, or do you use your debit card at the grocery store and get enough cash to cover incidental expenses?
I was thinking about opening up a BoA account for my daughter and seeing if I can transfer money to it regularly from my PNC account.

I don’t use a lot of cash, so I just get cash back from the grocery store. With dining dollar, husky dollars, and just using the debit card directly, there’s not a lot of need for cash.

My daughter does not use much cash also. She uses her husky card for almost all of her food, toiletries and supplies (shaws, CVS, most dining places near campus all take the Husky card). I load up her charlie card for the T from an on-line account. And when she dines outside of the neighborhood she uses her credit/debit card. However, she already had a BoA account from HS so she uses those ATMs when she needs cash.

Can anyone give their opinion NUFCU, please? I looked into it and it caught my attention, but O wanted to know what members think about it… Thanks!

To open an account, need to fill out the following form: http://www.nufcu.neu.edu/new_account.pdf

This is the application to open an account.

With the application, would need:
a verification of address (i.e. bill or magazine subscription),
a copy of a government issue id (license or passport),
a copy of the husky id (if she does not have it she can bring it in once she arrives on campus and we can make a copy here),
and a $10 deposit (cash or check)

Along with the application provide the following information:
Cell phone number
email address

mother’s maiden name

But we decided to just open a Bank of America Student account, since it is a no-monthly fee/no minimum balance until student is 23 years old. Plus if she goes on co-ops, she will still have access.
