Banks, Doctors and anything else

My daughter will be a freshman this fall and I am looking for any input on local banks for students and local doctors if we need to get health care off campus. Also, anything else anyone can think of that I should do to get her ready, please let me know.

Our D used Park National Bank which had a table set up in Slayter. Never had to use a local doctor so I can’t help there. Are you coming from far away or in OH?

I don’t know anything about Denison specifically, but shouldn’t the doctors and nurses at the Health Center at Denison be a good source for referrals to local doctors if your daughter needs one?

We live in New York and I cannot find any doctor in Granville/Newark area on our health plan. With regard to the other post about using the campus health care, I unfortunately have had bad experiences with my other daughter at a different college so I am trying to anticipate rather than trying at a later date to find someone when I have no choice.

Our daughter has used the health center exclusively, but then she hasn’t had any major issues (just colds and the like).

Our D does not have a local bank account; she uses her debit and credit cards and checking account from our bank here (California). And “Denison Dollars” for on campus purchases …

Since you’re coming from New York, you don’t need advice about the weather!

My daughter will be a sophomore this year. We set up a Park National Bank account at orientation in Slayter last August. She has found them to be very helpful and have quite the personal touch, including when questions came up around accessing funds during her summer abroad program. They have a cash machine on campus.

As for docs, if you are going to be more comfortable having a name upfront in case of issues with student health, you might think about e-mailing faculty who live locally to see who they use, particularly if there are any you liked well from June-O. One of the things I found quite comforting at JuneO last year was the news that there is always an adminstrator on duty who meets up with your child in the event of a hospitalization or ER visit. I have friends with kids at even slightly larger places and nothing like this is in place there. Cross fingers and knock wood, hasn’t been an issue.

There is a Chase Bank in Granville…if you live in NY you can probably find a local branch to set up an acct.
